The Ministry of Environment and Ecological Transition hosted a preparatory meeting on 21 May 2026 for the African Regional Dialogue on Pollution Management (mercury, unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants – UPOPs – and electronic waste), under the chairmanship of Colonel Alassane Ngom.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Baba Dramé, Director of the Directorate of Environment and Classified Establishments (DEEC), who welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of this regional event scheduled to take place in Dakar on 15 June 2026.

During the meeting, Colonel Alassane Ngom presented the preparatory report for the dialogue, recalling the context of the Pollution Management and Environmental Health Program for Africa (PGSENPA), funded by the World Bank. He also noted that the municipalities of Dalifort-Foirail and Hann-Bel-Air were beneficiaries of the project in Senegal.

The African Regional Dialogue aims to strengthen the capacities of key stakeholders, identify common solutions for improved pollution management, and promote regional cooperation. The event will bring together representatives from public administrations, international organizations, local authorities, civil society organizations, technical and financial partners, as well as experts in the sector.

Participants also reviewed the organizational arrangements for the event, including the opening ceremony protocol, field visits, exhibition spaces, and the logistical and communication measures required for its successful implementation.

In addition, PAN Africa will host an exhibition booth to showcase its activities and achievements and will contribute to the reporting activities of exhibitors.

At the end of the discussions, participants reaffirmed their commitment to continuing preparations to ensure the success of the African Regional Dialogue on Pollution Management and to strengthen regional cooperation in addressing environmental pollution challenges.
